Let’s do more shit!

The idea was simple: I wanted to experience things. New things, scary things, things I had never thought of. A good friend of mine inspired this. We were chatting one day in late 2025, and she just turned to me and said, “Oh, I need to go. My aerial trapeze class is in an hour,” and just like that, she was gone, leaving me with more questions than answers.

She was the kind of person who had a story every time I saw her. Her weekends never seemed to be boring or mundane; they always involved something I had never even dreamed of doing with my weekends. Whether it was a nudist weekend foraging for mushrooms in the Lake District or heading to India for a yoga retreat, she always seemed to be doing stuff.

That’s when I decided that I wanted to do stuff too. I was sick of my weekends being nothing more than a rest break in my corporate stooge lifecycle.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the life I have built with my partner. I don’t know if it was me getting older, but it started to feel like I was living to work and my life was passing me by quicker day by day.

So, my mantra became, “I wanna do more shit.”

Especially shit that brought me out of my comfort zone and forced me to unlearn decades of repressed feelings, societal expectations and shame. I also wanted to learn things about myself that I never got the chance to learn as a young adult navigating the hetero and gender-binary world in which we grew up.

This is where Tales of the Knight was born. I wanted a space where I could experience these firsts and have a place to reflect, unpack and unlearn everything that came with them. I wanted to document it, to give people, especially queer people, a place to read about how you can experience the world and the things you were too scared to go and experience yourself, in the hope that it would encourage them to do what took me almost 20 years to do: live my authentic life. But first, I had to figure out what that was.

This series of short blogs is going to be me fumbling through workshops, events and spaces that I hadn’t been to before. Things that intrigued me and that I wanted to find out more about. Kink has always been something that I thought started and finished with a whip and a pair of handcuffs, which I thought were not for me, so I moved along. But kink is so much more than that. So, I set off to explore.

This will be my diary-entry series, where I go and do shit, learn something, experience it and reflect on it.

A couple of very important points I want to make first:

  • I am not an expert. This is about me and my experiences in these spaces.

  • I am not a professional writer. This will be like two friends texting, probably with spelling mistakes and all.

  • I am not here to shame. What I do is about me and my experiences. I am not here to shame any person or group. If something is not for me, then it’s not for me. It does not mean it might not be right for you.

  • I am a white, cis, gay male. I am on my own journey, discovering my gender expression and sexuality, but that is all I know for now. This is the perspective I can write from.

I welcome you on my journey and hope you, too, can find the space to find your true self, if you haven’t done so already.
